“Syrian-Israeli relations are an extremely interesting starting point for a future Middle East. With the new government in Damascus, these relations and their nature have yet to unfold. Moshe Sharett and Ben Gurion had difficulties in getting a ceasefire agreement with the Syrians after Israel's war of independence. Today, the relations of the two countries are accelerating and have a lasting impact on the region. If Israel and Syria can have sustainably good relations, there is a lot of potential for other neighbors too. “

Pascal Bernhard is an affiliate fellow at Tukhum Institute for Syria – Israel Affairs. He is an expert on the Middle East, with a special focus on the Levant, the Gulf, as well as European-Gulf relations.. 

Currently he works with the Candid Foundation as a Political Officer, where he is implementing an EU-wide dialogue project. Previously, he has worked as a journalist and covered Iraq, Israel-Palestine, Jordan, Turkey and other Middle Eastern countries. 

Currently, Pascal also advises the Green Liberal Party of Switzerland on Foreign Affairs on an honorary basis.
